I’ve been working in and around SEO for around 10 years now. Back in the day I had a few websites that per first place in Google. A huge update back in April 2012 (What have I been doing for all these years!) called Penguin started killing my sites. The stuff I had been taught back then was pure keyword anchor text. The kind of links Google, now didn’t like.
This image shows the pageviews for my adsense sites. (I blurred out some of the data as I recall reading that Google doesn’t like people sharing that kind of info) 
Seeing as now some of my knowledge was now defunct, I had to go on a search for new teaching. I started learning about diversifying my anchor text and getting links in different ways. Some things worked. Some didn’t.
Nothing seems to have stuck like it did back then.

SEO from scratch
I have spent loads of money on different training etc but one of the problems that I have is actually doing the work. Not physically, mentally. So today I decided to throw caution to the wind and put my money where my mouth is and rank this site.
This will go one of two ways.
Either it will start to rank and you are reading this. Great.
Or it wont and my time and effort would have been wasted. Or I could look at it from the way that at the moment the website doesn’t really rank anyway. Yes it isn’t great to spend money but if I want this to actually work, then I need to gamble a bit. After all I am happy to waste cash on fruit machines now and then (I know, I know)
But in order to get this going we need to establish a baseline.
