Behind The Scenes Of How Google REALLY ranks.

I’m pretty much sick of all the Google search changes. Over the past few years, all that has happened is that Google has replaced more and more of their ranking systems with ‘human response’ measures.

In other words – let’s see how people respond to this. Do they share it? Do they stay on the page or leave quickly? Do they return later?

The fact is – as hard as all these changes are for us – they are good for the search engine user.

These changes can also be good for us – because as more ‘established’ players fall down the new style rankings – more traffic is freed up for us…

This only works though, if we can master the new ranking system. The best way to do this – is to get good content.

That’s easier said than done though – there is NO doubt about that. The days where we could just repeat keywords throughout a piece of text were at their peak during AltaVistas reign…

Google rules the roost now, and EVERYTHING they have done has been to get away from keyword spamming and link spamming.

The key now is to get content that Google see’s as useful and ‘expert’. Do that, and your half way there.

As I’ve mentioned before, Google uses a variation (read simplification) of a technology called LSI, or Latent Semantic Indexing.

All you need to know about this, is that it means that Google looks for words it knows are related to the main topic. The more of these you get – the better your score. The better your LSI score, the better you rank.

Simples!

Well, maybe not – the fact is that in practise, that can be hard to do well.

I’ve seen a number of plugins that claim to solve this problem, and to be fair, they all have to an extent.
